• A Plea from Patterdale MRT

In the light of the relaxation of restrictions on movement in England Patterdale MRT are asking you to think carefully before coming to the Lakes and heading off up the fells.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team have issued a statement on Facebook which has been endorsed by the Lake District Search And Mountain Rescue Association. Patterdale MRT cover incidents on Helvellyn from the Ullswater side which is a one of the region's big accident blackspots with particularly difficult rescues on Striding and Swirral edges.  read more ...

• Lochaber MRT on Monday's Rescue

On Monday night Lochaber MRT had to rescue four poorly equipped people from Ben Nevis in blizzard conditions. This got a lot of attention from the public and Lochaber have now written about that. We think it deserves wider circulation.

• Remembering Jessie 2005 - 2020

Jessie was the Border Collie / Golden Retriever cross dog that appears in many of our walk photos. She died at the beginning of January 2020.

• Why we don't use What 3 Words

We think that What Three Words is an interesting idea but the business model the company behind it is using makes it unsuitable for fell walking.

You may be aware of a company called What 3 Words and their product of the same name. Their big idea is that they've come up with a system of grid references that relies on three words to locate a point within a three metre square anywhere in the world. So "fish elephant emptied" might be a three metre square on top of Scafell Pike (it's not).  read more ...
