A Busy Weekend

Last weekend was an unprecedentedly busy one for LDSAMRA, as the Summer holidays started for many across the UK, with multiple deployments from 9 of their 12 teams, Helimed 58, Coastguard 199 & RAF Leeming.

Saturday 20th July

• 1st - Patterdale - Ankle injury - Gowbarrow fell - 11:48, Team deployed.
• 2nd - Langdale/Ambleside - struggling to breathe and felling dizzy - Path to stickle Tarn - 11:56, team deployed to escort off.
• 3rd - Langdale/Ambleside - Fell runner fell and injured ankle - Hart Crag - 12:57, Team deployed.
• 4th - Wasdale - Swimmer jumped in and dislocated shoulder - Tongue Pot, Eskdale - 13:59, Team deployed as well as Helimed 58 (Great North Air Ambulance Service )
• 5th - Wasdale - Party of 6, 1 of them their legs had seized up - Illgill Head - 15:15 - Due team already being out, T/L requested they get food & water and walk of, only Team leader involved and group had walked off and no assistance needed.
• 6th - Wasdale - Couple lost in fog - Mickledore - 16:32 - Team leader spoke with them a talked them off the hill.
• 7th - Langdale/Ambleside, Keswick, RAF Leeming & Lake District Mountain Rescue Searchdogs - High risk missing person missing - Langdale area - 17:41 - Teams deployed to search for misper, found in the early hours of Sunday morning by the RAF.
• 8th - Langdale/Ambleside - 44-year-old female fell and sustained an ankle injury - Easdale Tarn - 17:44 - Stretchered off the hill.
• 9th - Wasdale & Duddon & Furness- Car stuck on steep embankment with 6 in vehicle - Hardknott Pass - 23:07 - Team leaders started investigation, then police arrived 1st and they were all ok, only T/L's involved.

There are about 400 volunteers on 12 mountain rescue teams in the Lake District

Sunday 21st July

• 10th - Cockermouth - 1 Male stuck and lost after clouds came in - High stile - 08:23 - T/L spoke with him and talked him back to a path and then back down off the hill.
• 11th - Kirkby Stephen - walker slipped and injured ankle - Pennine way near dufton - 13:40 - Team deployed and stretchered off the hill.
• 12th - Coniston - Cardiac arrest - Grizedale forest - 16:26 - team deployed but unable to save him and he sadly passed away.
• 13th - Coniston/Langdale/Ambleside - Young child reported ran off from his mum - Wray castle - 16:33 - Teams deployed and started searching for child, later turned up safe and well.
• 14th - Cockermouth - reports from police of upturned paddleboard - Crummock Water - 16:35 - Investigation only paddleboarder turned up safe and well.
