Hi All,

Hope you are all well and had a good summer walking the Lakes. Had a great wander around the Langdale Pikes for the day during the heatwave and a few smaller ones, Rannerdale Knotts, Raven Crag.

I'm visiting the Northern Lakes for the 4 days between Christmas and New Year, with my sons, and want to do a couple of hikes. Hopefully ones I haven't done before and I am hoping there will be snow on the peaks if not at town level. Haven't hiked in snow before and of course there is the chance it might just be rain! Taking ice spikes for the boots in case, but dont want to do anything that requires crampons and an ice axe.

We're staying in Keswick.

Done most of the big ones in the area.

Hit me with your recomendations please! Was looking at Skiddaw Little Man, maybe Lonscale Fell, Castle Crag?

There are quite a few walks based in Keswick.

For Lonscale Fell you could go via Burnt Horse Ridge. But for different I'd look at the Back o' Skidda - Little and Great Sca Fells, Meal Fell, and Great Cockup and Great Calva and Knott from Mosedale. It's a big grassy, mossy, moorland area so after rain they can get a bit soft but make for a good wander about and likely to be quiet.

Thank's Beth I will check them out. On Your recommendation my younger son and I did the Bakestall - Skiddaw longer walk last year. Brilliant walk and so nice for being so quiet across Skiddaw Forest Thank you.

With the winds expected to get up to 100MPH on Lonscale Fell we did High Rigg, Naddle Fell, and Wren Crag from the roadside Legburthwaite/A591. Great walk. Windy on the top of High Rigg but well worth the hike for the amazing views. So good for so little effort.

Hammered it down with rain on the way back from the Church!

Next up there in the summer (August) and planning to tackle the Coledale Round since we're staying in a cottage in Braithwaite.

happy New Year, hope everyone is healthy.

Have you been up Latrigg? It is a great viewpoint. You can go for a loop up through the woods, and then back down directly to Keswick.

If you have a car, there is a good walk up Longside Edge and Ullock Pike, then (if it is not too icy, as it is steep), down past Dodd, and back on a path by the side of the road. Of course Ullock Pike also gives a good walk up Skiddaw itself.

Latrigg has awesome views, been up there many times, hoping for favourable conditions for a sunset up there.

We decided to try and do, Whinlatter on our arrival day, and Lonscale Fell and Skiddaw little man or High Rigg, Naddle Fell, and Wren Crag on the next. Not totally set and have a few others we're considering in case it's torrential rain.

Sounds good. High Rigg is a good viewpoint and I have even seen red squirrels in the woods. It is nice to combine visiting the tops with a walk back along by the beck side.

By the time you get to Skiddaw Little man you might be tempted to continue to the top of Skiddaw itself.

Fingers crossed for good weather.
