Hi Just 'found' your website and it looks just great for what i want. I'm trying to plan a route up Skiddaw, but the route will not 'Snap to path' even though I've ticked this option in the settings. Any idea where I might be going wrong.
Hmm. It appears to be working from here and I can see you and others have accessed snap this morning. So I'm not quite sure what's going on. You do need to be near enough to a path or road for it to snap, about 50 metres should do it.
I'll talk to Paul when he's back in later, it maybe tomorrow before we get back to you.
Thanks Beth.. much appreciated. Bill
Hi Bill, we've now done an initial investigation of this issue but before I talk about that I should just mention that route1 snapping works with our WayMaps tiles and aerial photography but not when you have Ordnance Survey tiles selected ...
Anyway I don't get route snapping either if I'm connecting through our local council VPN (to which I have access), however it does work if we use a mobile phone connection or a remote VPN in the States so it seems to be specific to how some users are connecting to our server. We have tried changing the way we do this slightly but it's not helped me however it may help you so please try it again now and see if it's got any better.
Whether it does or not we have a better solution which we believe will work for everyone, but that's going to take a little longer to set up and test.
Anyway, try again now and let me know how you get on. Thanks.
Hi TallPaul Thanks for the quick response. Just tried using my phone (hotspot), but still no joy. (I am using the Waymaps option). I'll try and find a US vpn but I'll need to research on how to do that. Still a great website even if I have to enter waypoints manually. Hope you can sort out the issue from your end. Regards Bill
I believe that we have now resolved this issue. It certainly now works via all the routes we have available including that council VPN on which it was failing before so please give it another go and see how you get on. Thanks.
I have Snap to Path selected in settings and am using WayMap Tiles but and get no snapping either. I am in the Midlands near Solihull; I have tried without a VPN, and via a VPN using UK and US servers. Thanks, Evan
Hi Evan, that's curious as snapping is working for us - including via a VPN - and, when I look at the logs, I can see you making snap requests and them being sent back to you.
So at 11:55:58 for example you asked to snap to the first point on a new route1 to latitude 52.52424640742348 and longitude -1.6702101793777318, so here. Does that look right to you?
The server sent back a valid response to your browser so it should have snapped.
The log also says that you're using Microsoft Edge 121.0.0.0 on Windows 10 so I'll fire up a Windows machine and see if I can reproduce the issue there.
I've now tried this on various combinations of browser and operating system, including Edge and Windows, and it's working fine. In addition, as I said in my last comment, I can see your browser making snap requests.
My suspicion therefore is that you have a browser extension or plugin which is getting in the way and is blocking the result of those requests being handed back to the JavaScript app. If I'm right then it's probably an ad blocker or other privacy extension. With that in mind I'd either trying turning each of those off in turn and seeing what happens or else trying another browser e.g. Firefox.
Thanks for your prompt response Paul, and apologies for my delayed response. My initial attempts were from my work PC (Win 11 rather than 10) where Edge is my only browser option.
I have since tried on my own PC (also Win 11) with Firefox and Chrome (and maybe also Edge again) without any success.
OK, well I'm a bit of a loss then I'm afraid.
I'm a councillor so the council give me a Win 11 laptop and I connect to the Internet via their VPN. I've just used Edge on that to log in as an ordinary user, not a supporter, and I see the snap requests coming into our server from afar, our server replying, and the route1 points snapping exactly as I would expect.
Why it's not working for you on a variety of platforms I've no idea. I see you have snapping turned on so as long as you're using WayMaps and not OS then route point snapping should work and, as I described above, I could see snap requests coming from your IP address and our server responding. Something is stopping those responses working, but I can't work out what and it looks like it's something local to you.
Thanks for looking at this Paul. If I find a solution I will let you know!
